The only thing stopping this TurnStyle sling from being perfect is my equipment’s weight.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to test the “Sling-O-Matic” by ThinkTankPhoto. It seemed to be a little bulky, and did not work well for me at conventions. Also, after a while my back started to ache. Of course, it does not help that I have a Canon 1dMark III and a 100-400, and at the time, I also carried a 24-70 2.8. I mentioned that it is the perfect bag for some, just not for me..

This year, ThinkTankPhoto has come out with the TurnStyle line of sling bags. For this review I am using the Turnstyle 20. For a day bag, this one fits the bill. I have been able to fit my Canon 1D Mark III. 24-105, 100-400, Spark by LensBaby,  Canon’s 580 Flash, a can of Pineapple Juice (From 2012 Always check  the date!) and a Ipad 3.  I still had room left over for a few batteries and memory card wallet.

I headed off to St. Thomas to try out the TurnStyle.  That would be lost city of St. Thomas at Lake Mead in Nevada, the city that was covered by the lake once the damn was built. After an hour or so of romping through the now dry lake bed, I felt the effects of carrying the large gear. If I had a Mark III 5d or similar camera, I know I would of faired much better. I know that I am guilty of wanting to carry to much. Taking the camera out and carrying it by the strap helped quite a bit. It was nice to sling the bag around to do a lens change, and it was easy to get and out of the bag. Also in defense of the Turnstyle, it was still 110 degrees. Carrying any kind of bag in temperature like that is miserable. I don’t even like using my BellyDancer and Skins or s Speed Convertible in that kind of heat.

I will use this bag again, in fact, I can pack this in my Airport Security when I travel and have a perfect day bag. And once I get something like a 5D Mark ? I know there will be trips that this would be the only bag I take. Here is the video of what I was able to stuff into a Think Tank Photo’s TurnStyle 20

This just in…. the day after yesterday..

Check out the My Second Brain line in 4 different sizes and 3 color choices here  . And, just for the MacBook Pro, check out the Powerhouse. No more loose cords! Of course, if I am lucky enough to get my hands on a M2B and a Powerhouse, (would have to be the M2B 13 or 15) I will tell you what I really think….
